Paul Raymond Gervason

Paul Raymond Gervason – age 85, of Halls Harbour, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at home. Born in Wallaceburg, Ontario on May 20, 1937, he was a son of the late Frank and Helen (Dubuque) Gervason. Paul joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a teenager immediately following high school. He served as an officer (pilot) in the 414 Black Knights Fighter Jet Squadron of the RCAF, participated in formation flying in various airshows and was one of Canada’s top fighter pilots during his service. He graduated from the business department of Acadia University and returned to Acadia as Professor of Economics for over 30 years. Paul also graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and had been employed with ACA Co-Op as Senior VP in the finance department. He also served as a Director on the Nova Scotia Chicken Marketing Board and served the agricultural community in several capacities. After settling in Halls Harbour, he and his wife Gladys began working their land in tree farming and offering land for other agricultural needs. Paul enjoyed music and was an active member of his community, assisting with Halls Harbour Days for many years by running and cooking the yearly chicken barbeque as well as the fireworks display. He was a member of the West Halls Harbour Baptist Church where he served as church organist for decades. Paul was appointed to the Tribunal Order of Canada that viewed and ruled on cases for the Supreme Court in Ottawa. He was the owner and operator of a self-created land expropriation company that never lost a case and created rulings that set precedents that are enforced to this day. Paul had a passion and a love for animals. He had commercial/agricultural account at Cornwallis Veterinarians, where he was able to assist his and animals from the community. Over the years he took in countless stray cats and dogs to add to a long line of border collies, horses, ponies, goats and in recent years his cocker spaniels. Paul also enjoyed scuba diving, snowmobiling, hiking his property, supporting his sons motocross achievements, rockhounding and was President of the Kings North Liberal Association. He is survived by son, Seann; a brother, Ron "Sonny"; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 46 years in 2006, Gladys (Whitney). The funeral service, followed by a gathering, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2022 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. For those unable to attended, a live stream of the service will be available at that time. Burial will take place in the West Halls Harbour Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to Kings County S.P.C.A. or the Royal Canadian Legion Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville.
