Brayden O. "Butch" McDow

1938-2022

Brayden O. "Butch" McDow

Butch passed peacefully in his cherished lakeside home Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the age of 83, knowing the love of family and friends.

Predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Hattie (Russell) McDow; brothers, Hewitt (Alma) Russell, Firman (Marilyn), Ira; sister, Rona (Albert) Sweet; brother-in-law, Ronald Carey (D Doreen). He is survived by loving partner of 20 years, Gladys Atwell; his children, Audrey (Les) Oliver, Stephen (Lynda Sanford); granddaughter, Lindsey Power (Gary Graham); sister, D. Doreen Carey; brother, Darrell (Goldie) McDow; sister-in-law, Jeanne (Ira); many nieces, nephews and friends. He also had special relationships with his second wife’s children, in particular, Murray Martin.

Butch was a hardworking honest man who lived life full steam ahead, very much on his own terms. He was a millwright at Chrysler Canada for 30 years living in Essex, ON, for many of those years. He also farmed cash crops on his land, retiring in 1997 home to Murphy Lake. After his retirement, he enjoyed ox and horse pulls, having teams of both and being generous with his time and energy. He gave to the organizations to which he belonged and did not hesitate to help anyone in need. He loved his motorcycle for many years, as well as snowmobiling and his four-wheeler. He liked to hunt and fish, fabricate whatever he needed and steadily improve his property of which he was very proud. A special thanks to the Community Palliative Care team especially Palliative Care Nurse, Tara.

By Butch’s request/demand there will be no visitation or funeral service. We will; however, gather at his home (297 Murphy Lake Drive) on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. to share food, laughter and stories. A private interment to follow.
