Ellen Marie Foley

1938-2022

Ellen Marie Foley

The family of Ellen Marie Foley, 84, formerly of Kentville, is saddened to announce her passing at Wolfville Nursing Home in the early morning hours of July 29, 2022.

Born on April 29, 1938 in Grand Falls, NF, she was the eldest of 10 children. She was a daughter of the late John "Jack" and Mary (Murphy) Sweeney.

Our Mom was very proud of her Newfoundland heritage and was the epitome of kindness. She opened her heart and home to everyone she met. Her greatest joy in life was having her family around her. After Gerard’s retirement in 1991 they enjoyed travelling to Florida and Myrtle Beach and spent many happy summers at the campground in Cambridge-Narrows, NB. In their later years, they returned to Newfoundland for the summers and set up home in their cabin in Campbellton. Mom loved hanging clothes out where she had a wonderful view of the ocean. She loved to sing and dance, was an avid knitter and had tried her hand at sewing, quilting and embroidery. She also enjoyed bowling and snowmobiling. She was a devout Catholic, a member of the CWL, and was involved in the Cursillo Movement and the RCIA. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught Catechism in her younger years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Kentville New Horizon Club.

Ellen was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by the love of her life, Gerard, her husband of 64 years, Kentville; her five children, John, Surrey, BC; Anna, Kentville; Jeff, Calgary, AB; Lisa, Kentville, and Deanie (Les) Kelowna, BC; five grandchildren, Mathieu (LeAnn), Mandy (Mark), Amy, Sarah and Daniel, and her three great-grandchildren Kaidynce, Ellie and Jaxtyn. She is also survived by her brother, John (Shirley), Grand Falls-Windsor, NF; sisters, Mary (Gerry), Portugal Cove, NF; and Pauline, Halifax, NS, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, John (in infancy) and Jim; sisters, Trish, Alice, Dorothy and Jose.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in the White Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 6 to 8 p.m. with prayers starting at 7:45 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2022 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Kentville.
