Andrew John "Andy" MacNeil
With broken hearts, we deeply regret to announce the passing of our treasured brother, uncle, great uncle and a cherished friend to so many…Andy MacNeil.
Andy passed away peacefully in Valley Hospice, Kentville on September 12, 2022, after his brave, resolute battle with cancer. He was with family the morning he passed and was never alone. Valley Hospice tradition gave Andy a candlelight, honor-guard good-bye. It was tearful and befitting, accompanied by a ‘well-chosen’ song by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, "Room at the Top".
The love and support of Andy’s friends, family, homecare team, sweet/kind neighbors, and the compassionate, gifted staff at Valley Hospice will never be forgotten. Andy accepted his health challenges with dignity, showing more concern for how it affected those around him. Simply in the way he faced his challenges, he taught us all, many valuable life lessons, "To live on in the hearts of people after you’re gone, is not to die."
Andy had applied to the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery, Phoenix, Arizona, but that dream was brought to a halt by COVID. Soon after, Andy was diagnosed with cancer and his two-and-a-half-year battle began. He remained optimistic and talked about his plans to renovate his home and revisit the Arizona school at a later date. Andy’s collection of guitars, including his personally designed guitars were phenomenal. He was also a truly gifted musician, with a heart of gold.
Andy was predeceased by our wonderful parents, ‘Myrt and Connie’ MacNeil. He is survived by his sister, Margie (Brad); brothers, Dave (Bev) and Phil (Denise); nephews, Dustin (Nicole), Madison (Dana); great-nephew, Lane, and great-niece, Brooke.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service, at Andy’s request. A celebration of life will take place next Spring. Donations in Andy’s memory may be made to Valley Hospice Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
We love you
Andy. You will be forever missed.
Enjoy your next journey… as the crow flies.
"I got a
room at the top of the world tonight
I can see everything tonight
I got a room where everyone
Can have a drink and forget those things
That went wrong in their life …
I got a room at the top of the world tonight
And I ain't comin' down."
~ Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
