William George "Bill" Hughes
1938-2022
William George "Bill" Hughes, 84 of Gaspereau passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Bill grew up in Avonport. He was the last surviving son of the late bicycle racer/Veteran, Charles Hughes and Vera (Rose) Hughes.
Bill was 18 when he left home to pursue an education and career in California. He resided there until he was 65 before returning to the Valley.
Bill enjoyed warm weather, gardening, the Chronicle Herald, crosswords, current events, golf and chatting with his friends at the Coffee Club.
He is survived by two sisters, Betty Jodrey, Greenwich and Katherine Hughes, Ontario; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as great great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Vera (Rose) Hughes; brothers and sisters-in-law, Burton (Lois), Wilfred (Ginnie) and Earl; sisters, and brothers-in-law, Mary Harvey (John) and Jean Sharp (Fred).
A family graveside service will be held at a later date in the Willow Bank Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations may be made to the Avonport Baptist Church or Gaspereau Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
