Karl R. Meister

1948-2022

Karl R. Meister

It’s with sadness we share that Karl Meister of New Ross passed away on November 23, 2022. Or, as he said it, "time for me to go to my forever home."

Born in 1948 to the late Rex and Beatrice (Freeman) Meister, Karl was someone who quietly made a difference in the lives of everyone around him. His 74 years had an impact.

Farmer. Scientist. Teacher. Photographer. Hockey goaltender. Poet. Writer. Fan of classical music, classic rock, and even a touch of German techno. Philosopher. Fluent German speaker. Traveller. Foodie. Backyard astronomer. Lover of a fine cup of coffee. Lumberjack. Cook. Mentor. And just the most amazing husband, father, and grandfather.

Karl was many things to many people. He was a good man who lived a life rooted in his faith and principles.

Although that life took him to Germany, Northern Quebec and Baffin Island, his heart was always on the farm in New Ross. We’ll all keep an image in our minds of him walking in the fields with his beloved cattle following close behind.

He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Alice (Strapp); his two sons David (Christina) and Sean (Jennifer); granddaughter Rosie; brother Robert (Paulette); and many nieces and nephews. We’re all so proud to have been in his life and we miss him dearly.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. The Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the New Ross United Baptist Church with reception to follow at the New Ross Legion. Rev. Rick Small officiating.

A special thank you to Dr. Greg Thibodeau and the 4th Floor nursing staff at the South Shore Regional Hospital. Karl so enjoyed your companionship and compassionate care these last few months.

We request you not send flowers and instead donate in Karl’s name to either the Parkinson’s Society of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. On-line condolences and inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
