Gerald Delbert Barkhouse

1938-2023

Gerald Delbert Barkhouse

It is with heavy hearts the family of Gerald Delbert "Gerry" Barkhouse, 84, of Canning, announces his passing at home on Saturday, February 25, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, after a period of failing health. Born in Port Williams, he was a son of the late Eldon and Minnie (Bennett) Barkhouse. Known as "PaPa", Gerry loved having his grandchildren around him and showing them his collection of trinkets, working in the yard, having rides on the lawn tractor, playing his guitar and singing (he had a beautiful voice). He loved having a rowdy game of "Rook" and going to Tammy’s on a Sunday morning for coffee. Gerry enjoyed his yard sales and having that "special day event" with his sons-in-law, Jim and Rob. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother, Robert "Bob". He was employed at Archibald Farms for 18 years and Nova Scotia Textiles for 20 years. Gerald is survived by his wife of 32 years, Donna (Price); sons, Tony (Laura), Leonard "Lenny" (Gail), Terry; daughters, Belinda "Sue" (Robert Tupper) and Tammy (Jim Taylor); stepsons, Lloyd "Keith" Crossman (Eileen), and Bryon Crossman (Noella); sisters, Anne Hesslegrave and Sharon Greencorn; grandchildren, Melinda Benjamin (Steven), Robert "Robb" Tupper (Emma Herman), Kayla Barkhouse (Tyler MacLean), Bree-Anna Barkhouse (Brandon Gaudet), Travis Barkhouse (Karla), Chris Brackett (Carrie Jefferson), Daniel Taylor, Cody Barkhouse, Jessica Crossman, Janna Crossman, Christopher Crossman, Sarah Crossman, Thomas Crossman, Hailey Crossman, Caroline Crossman, Harley Crossman, Michael "Mikey" Crossman, Kody Hartt, Destiny Morris; 17 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Pineo and Betty Best; brother, Robert; as well as his stepson, Graham Crossman, who passed away unexpectedly on the same day as Gerald; and grandson, Ricky Barkhouse. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. A private family graveside service will be held in Pereau Cemetery, Pereau at a later date.
