Karen Schnare Penner

Karen Irene Schnare Penner, 73, of Centreville, formerly of Upper Vaughan, Hants County, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Anna (Aker) Schnare.

Karen had been employed with Metropolitan Life for over 30 years, and later worked for Sears Call Centre and Quill. She enjoyed her bus trips to the U.S., attending craft fairs, knitting, crocheting, cooking and watching movies. She had been a member of the St. James Anglican Church, and later attended Centreville Baptist Church upon moving to the community to be closer to family following her husband Art’s death.

She is survived by her sister, Donna Ells; brothers, David Schnare and Ken (Joanne) Schnare; sister-in-law, Donna Aker; many nieces and nephews, as well as great and great great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur "Art" Penner; brother, Bob; sisters-in-law Linda and Lantha; and brother-in-law, Kenneth "Howe". She was also predeceased by her beloved family dogs, Max and Hooter.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Valley Regional Hospital, as well as neighbors and friends, Sandra and Mel Barlett, for their care and kindness.

Donations in memory may be made to Diabetes Canada or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2023 in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill.
