Gene Autry Hill

Gene Autry Hill – 81, of Port Williams, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pereaux, he was a son of the late Oliver John and Frances (Balsor) Hill.

Prior to retirement, Gene worked for Valley Farms for a number of years. His hard work and dedication was valued by many. He was an excellent wheeler and dealer. He loved a fair bargain and always kept an eye out for a good buy, sell or trade. He was also full of humour and fun, and never missed a chance to tell a great story. Above all, he loved his family and friends dearly and would do anything for them.

Gene is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean (Martin); sons, Peter (Shelley), Lakeville; and James (Dave), Victoria, BC; brother, Donald (Freda) Hill, Centreville; brother-in-law, George Roy, Canning; sister-in-law, Elsie Hill, Kentville; grandchildren, Karen Hill, Thomas (Amanda) Hill and Logan (Melissa) Hill; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Oliver, Alex and Carl; sisters, Lavinia Roy, Dolena Hill, Eva Weldon, Rose Viner, Mildred Adams and Maxine Benjamin; and his grandson, Michael, in infancy.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. A public graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023 in Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the IWK Children’s Hospital Foundation.
