It is with great sadness the family of William Alvin Stanley "Bill" Harvie, age 87, of New Minas, announce his unexpected passing at home on Monday, March 6, 2023. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of the late William Aubrey and Myrtle (Carey) Harvie.

Bill was a jack of all trades. Prior to retirement, he worked as an Engine Operator for 19 years, then worked maintenance at the BFM and VRH until retirement. He enjoyed carpentry projects, yardwork, cleaning his car, and doing puzzles with his family. He learned to play guitar at 70 and loved his jam sessions with his family and his many dear friends. He was organized, intelligent, loving and took great care to make sure his family was always well looked after. Bill was a hard worker, a dedicated husband, a wonderful father and a selfless, generous man with tremendous integrity. 

Bill will be deeply missed by his wife of 65 years, Marie "Dora" (Deveau); children, Tim (Carol MacHugh), Denver, Col.; Wendy "Darlene" Appleton (Stephen Burke), Kentville; and William Jr. "Bill" (Wendy), New Minas; grandchildren, Ashley Harvie, Kaitlyn Harvie, Bradley (Amber) MacGregor, Brandon (Sarah) MacGregor, Claire Harvie and Lara Harvie; and his precious great-granddaughter, Sophia Elyzabeth. He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne "Joe" and Fred "Buzz", and sisters, Margaret Bishop and Sheila Faye Meister, as well as many nieces, nephews extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Frank and Allison; and sister, Sally Smith.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2023 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, with a reception to follow. Father John MacPherson officiating. For those unable to attend, a video webcast will be available on-line by Tuesday, March 14. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. Donations in memory may be made to the War Amps. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
