Elaine Drucilla (Walker) McCulloch

1943-2023

Elaine Drucilla (Walker) McCulloch

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elaine Drucilla (Walker) McCulloch, who passed away peacefully at age 80 on March 26, 2023.

Elaine started her life in an actual blaze. She was born on February 28, 1943 in Twillingate in what was then the dominion of Newfoundland. On that cold evening, the hospital experienced a significant fire and she had to be thrown from the window to safety. This started a full life as Elaine blazed her way forward with energy and passion for all of her eighty years.

She moved to Prince Edward Island with her family, before pursuing her education at Queens University and finally relocating to Halifax, where she lived for the remainder of her years. Elaine enjoyed a full career at Saint Mary’s University, working for many years in the Chemistry department and then becoming the Safety Officer for the University.

Shortly after moving to Halifax, she was introduced by friends to Archibald "Archie" McCulloch, who became the love of her life. They married in June 1971 and experienced all of life’s adventures until Archie’s passing in 2019.

Elaine was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Ivy Jean (Anstey) Walker, as well as her husband Archibald. She is survived by her two sons, John (Hugh) and Scott (Melanie); her grandchildren, Dawson, Macie and Riley; her sister Diane (Paul) Hatfield; nephews and nieces Darren, Sheena, Rory and Hannah.

Elaine passed peacefully at Dykeland Lodge, where she had resided since July 2021. Her family would like to thank the staff at both Dykeland, as well as her previous residence of Melville Heights for their kind care.

At Elaine’s request, no funeral service will take place. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday April 29th from 1 to 3 pm at the Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax. Donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. On-line condolences and inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
