1939-2023

Muriel "Joan" Verge

Muriel "Joan" Verge passed away comfortably and peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2023, in Shannex – Blomidon Court, Greenwich, with her loving family by her side.

Born in New Glasgow, NS, on August 6, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Monette) LeFresne. She is survived by her son, Jay (Myrna), Cambridge and daughter, Debra (Keith) Richardson, Forest Hill. She was an amazing "Nanny" to her grandchildren, Allison (Evan) Collins, Denise Conrad, Tracey (David) Mandanice, Amanda, Julianna and Bonnie Richardson; six great-grandchildren, Analise, Owen and Joel Collins, Wren and Otto Conrad, and Taylor Richardson. Joan is also survived by a brother, Howard LeFresne, and a sister, Jean Pitts, both of New Glasgow. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Don.

Joan was a familiar face for a great number of years in the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, where she worked for Sterivision. She also had many jobs throughout her life including being a foster parent for a number of children, a housekeeper/nanny, and she ran a successful home bakery, supplying local corner stores and the Pictou Market.

Everyone who met Joan knew her for her wit, hearty laugh, and her loving and kind nature. She had a strong Christian faith that has carried her though her life.

Joan was a resident of Shannex – Blomidon Court, Greenwich, for the past six years. She was loved dearly and loved all her caregivers there. At this time, we, Joan’s family, want to express our gratitude to the administration and staff who provided excellent care to her. You have become family and will forever be in our hearts.
