Vergie Lorraine (DeLong) Arenburg

1954-2023

Vergie Lorraine (DeLong) Arenburg

It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected and short-lived life of Vergie Lorraine (DeLong) Arenburg, age 68, of Kentville, who passed away on Friday July 21, 2023, at the Valley Regional Hospital. She was affectionately called Mom, Mama, Nanny, Verge and Jude. She is survived by her only child, Tanya Arenburg (Jason) of Coldbrook; brother, Maynard (Cindy) of New Brunswick; brother-in-law, Bub "Ken" Johnson Jr., Waterville; as well as her many given brothers and sisters. She was predeceased by her given sister Kathy Johnson and brother Allison as well as many siblings before her.

Born in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Vergie was raised by her given parents Ruth and Lawrence Gordon and was surrounded by many given brothers and sisters.  She eventually moved to Coldbrook with her family.

Mom joined the workforce after raising her daughter and became a very independent woman. Once she turned 65, she was done with the whole work thing and retired. She spent her retirement shopping and she truly appreciated every little thing she bought for her apartment, which she kept in tip top shape - a spec of dust didn’t stand a chance against her. Mom loved a good deal on clothing and went to her favourite places on a weekly basis, downtown or by bus. She was one of kind and a creature of habit. Although she wasn’t a grandmother, she was a wonderful nanny to her grand dogs over the years.  To say she will be missed is an understatement.  Mom - our world will never be the same without you in it, especially around holidays and special occasions.

We would like to thank Bub "Ken" Johnson Jr. for all the many road trips, coffee dates, yard sale adventures and all the laughs shared with mom these last few years, and most importantly your guidance in helping her daughter navigate this most difficult time. Your conversations and being present at the hospital will be treasured forever. We take great comfort in knowing you’ll be the ‘caretaker’ looking after mom and her sister Kathy at their final resting place. Surely, they are together, laughing it up drinking coffee and getting caught up on everything.

We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses on Medical B notably Dr. Broaders and nurse Sharon D. for your support and for your compassion during this difficult time.

Cremation has taken place.  There will be no visitation or service by request.  An open graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings County, on Saturday, August 12 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Kings County SPCA or Hope for Wildlife. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.

You’re simply the best, Better than all the rest, Better than anyone, Anyone I ever met – Your "mom" said it best.

Go and ask your mother, best advice ever - Unknown
