John Anthony Novosad

John Anthony Novosad

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John Anthony Novosad at home on Friday, September 15, 2023, surrounded by loving family and friends. John was in his 72nd year and fought a courageous four-year battle with cancer.

John will be deeply missed and is survived by the love of his life for 38 years, Susan; his siblings, Irene Dickau, Rosalie (George) Manchulenko, Mary Anne Hornick, Helen (Dean) Campagna and Elizabeth (Robert) Fahringer. John is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Hedvika Novosad and brother, Joseph.

John will also be missed by his mother-in-law, Carol Hrycay (Maxim-deceased), brothers-in-law, Bill (Gabrielle) Hrycay and Jim (Madonna Beale) Hrycay; and his sister-in-law, Mary Hrycay.

John was an adoring Uncle (Uncle J) to many nieces and nephews and was always involved in many activities and adventures with them, including fishing, camping, white water rafting, skiing, as well as many family gatherings.

John's 24-year career as a Cartographer with the Niagara Escarpment Commission in Georgetown, Ontario saw him travel to many parts of the Niagara Escarpment throughout Ontario when completing mapping projects for the Commission.

John was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed many fishing trips to remote cabins in NW Ontario, paddled many rivers with family and friends and in his early days trained Gordon Setter dogs for hunting in competitive field trials. He was a valued friend, and neighbour and was always willing to lend a hand when necessary. He was a talented woodworker, a handyman extraordinaire and was a patient teacher with those around him.

He was a kind and gentle soul, who always had an affinity with people and animals alike.

Special thanks are extended to his Oncology team of Dr. Jennifer Melvin, Nurse Carmin and Dr. Michael Ha and also to his family physician, Dr. Dwight Klippenstine.

As well, thanks are extended to the Valley Palliative Care team of Dr. Karen Burch and Nurse Janet Welton and the VON nurses for their support with John’s care at home.

Cremation has taken place and as per John's wishes, there will be no funeral or celebration of life. Donations in John’s memory can be made to Sing Canada Harmony. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
