Margaret Ann (Palmer) Curry

1936-2023

Margaret Ann (Palmer) Curry

It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Curry (nee Palmer) announce her peaceful death at the age of 86 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with family at her side.  Margaret was born as the second of five daughters of E. Grace and Gerald Palmer in Middleton.  She will be missed dearly by her children, Stephen, Cheryl and Gerald and many friends and extended family.

Margaret attended Middleton Regional High School where she was part of the Provincial Basketball School Team in 1953, a team that is on the Middleton Wall of Fame. She attended Truro Normal College and went on to teach at Wilmot and Highbury schools and was a substitute teacher at New Minas Elementary after moving to the area. Margaret married her high school sweetheart Blake in August 1957 and celebrated 54 years of marriage before his death in 2012. They were square dancers in their earlier years and spent many enjoyable times at the family cottage at Trout Lake on "Curry’s Isle".

She also enjoyed family get-togethers and entertaining with her sisters, who she spoke to daily, as "The Palmer Girls". Margaret was a charter member of Orchard Valley United Church (formerly New Minas United), a faithful member of the church choir and was very active in the church. She often got together with friends for games of cards. Margaret liked playing radio bingo, watching curling and Jeopardy and all things Toronto…Blue Jays, Raptors and Maple Leafs. She proudly showed off her pictures of her great-grandchildren, "her angels", any chance she got and was active in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margaret will be missed by her son, Stephen (Kathleen), Truro; daughter, Cheryl Hill, New Minas; son, Gerald (Heather), New Minas; grandchildren, Jacob Curry (Jenn Mantin), Truro; Mitchell Curry, New Minas; Samantha LeDrew (Adam), Norwich, ON; Brandon Hiltz (Davin Campbell), Grand Prairie, AB; Rachel LaPierre (Colin), Truro; Kaylan Hill (Marco Ronz), Lower Sackville; Duncan Hill (Sarah Wilson), Lower Sackville; Lyam Curry (Emily Ward), New Minas; Reghan Hiltz (Zach Walsh), Kentville; Marnie Hill, New Minas; and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Audrey Newbery, Kentville; Mary Muise, Middleton and Nancy (Don) Hussey, Hantsport.
