Beverly "Bev" Lawson Sheffield

1947-2023

Beverly "Bev" Lawson Sheffield

On Thursday November 9, 2023, while at home with his family, Beverly Lawson Sheffield passed away peacefully after a battle with cancer. Bev, as he was called by his family and friends, was born on November 4, 1947, in Kentville, Nova Scotia, and over the years called many places in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley home. Though he often joked with his children that he only went to school for only one day when his younger brother Randy was sick, he attended school on the North Mountain. Bev did many things for work during his life, including working in forestry, as a cook, as a mechanic, and for a brief period, he moved to Alberta with his family to be a pipe fitter. However, he will be best remembered as a musician and entertainer, playing countless shows from the time he was a young man. He was in many bands over the years, including with his brother Randy, and later his sons Cory and Kenny. Music was truly a big part of Bev’s life, and he enjoyed sharing his love of singing and playing songs at countless benefit dances and charity events over his lifetime, evidence of his generosity and caring spirit. He always loved making others happy and was usually always willing to pick up a guitar, banjo, or play piano for anyone right up until the time of his passing – this "life of the party" lived a life dedicated to bringing people happiness, no matter what their age. Bev will truly be missed by his family and friends! Bev is survived by his children Christine Sheffield, Tracey "Kiki" Schofield (Allan Gould), Cory (Daralyn) Sheffield, and Kenny Sheffield (Donna Wilson), and their mother Susan Sheffield; his brothers Robie (Faith) Woodworth, Randy (Lynda) Sheffield; sisters Tena Sheffield, Cindy (Robert) Harnish, Marge (Harry) Pinch; grandchildren, Nick, Jen, and Kendra (Christine), Elyssa, Brandon, and Tristine (Tracey), Millicent and Silas (Cory), Jessica and Seth (Kenny), and their families including 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Many of Bev’s friends considered him their family, and that feeling was entirely mutual. Bev was predeceased by his parents Lawson and Georgia Sheffield, and brother Michael Anthony Sheffield. The funeral will be held on Thursday November 16, 2023, at 10 am in the White Family Funeral Home, 100 Cornwallis Street, Kentville, followed by a private family burial. A celebration of Bev’s life will be held upstairs at the Kentville Legion, 37 River Street, on Sunday November 19, 2023 from 1-6 pm. Donations in memory can be made to the Canadian Red Cross (https://www.redcross.ca/); Canadian Cancer Society (https://cancer.ca/), or the Royal Canadian Legion, Kentville Branch #006.
