Barbara Ann Hiltz
Barbara Ann (Tracey) Hiltz, age 72, of Windsor Forks passed away peacefully at the QEII hospital on November 30, 2023 with her daughter Bernice by her side. Born in Berwick she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Daphne (Sampson) Tracey.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Bernice Hiltz (Joseph) of Greenwich and Marilyn Tracey; brother, Frank Tracey of Windsor Forks; sister, Mary Baker of Digby; grandchildren, Cory Tracey and Matthew Kelly, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Clayton Hiltz; brother, James Sampson; sister-in-law, Joanne Tracey and brother-in-law, Wayne Baker.
Barbara was raised in Black Rock, in her earlier years she spent time doing different jobs such as apple picking. After marrying her husband Clayton much of her time was spent as a homemaker, caring for their two daughters. Every year Clayton would plant the family a vegetable garden, Barbara would can and preserve the crops to prepare for winter. She enjoyed taking care of the many farm animals they kept, including chickens, ducks, cows and ponies. Barbara liked to spend time planting and tending to her own flowerpots and gardens. She enjoyed baking, particularly so around the holidays. Barbara especially loved Christmas, getting the Christmas decorations up was a big deal in her household; a tradition she passed on to Bernice. She also really enjoyed her country music, especially the Saturday Night Classics. Barbara was described as "just a beautiful person", she will be deeply missed by her cat Mittens.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of the QEII Infirmary for keeping Barbara comfortable in her final days.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service (with video webcast) will also be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating with reception to follow. Donations in memory may be made to the QEII Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
