Maureen Veronica Cuthbertson

Maureen Veronica (Fernandes) Cuthbertson – 86, of Hortonville, passed away in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with her children by her side on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Born in Georgetown, British Guiana, she was the daughter of the late Elaine Leung and Maurice Fernandes. 

Maureen was a trained legal secretary and worked for Brooker Group in British Guiana before immigrating to Canada in 1962. Her early Canadian adventures began in Winnipeg where she worked for the Saan Stores Ltd. She then married and moved to Vancouver Island, where she started her family. Maureen moved to Nova Scotia in 1971, where she found her home in Hortonville and raised her children. 

Maureen’s greatest loves were her family, her food and her home. She is survived by children, Chris, Kevin (Orinda), Corinne (Luke Moir) and Colin Cuthbertson; beloved grandchildren, Nicholas, Kyra, Sarah Kate, Mercedes and Julia; brothers, Anthony, Derick, James and Lennox Carpenay and sister Marcia Pirk.  Maureen was famous with the neighborhood children for her Guyanese recipes, hot sweet tea and deep fried chips. Her home was always welcoming and open to everyone. 

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Maureen’s life will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation or funeral service.
