Joan M. Smith

1945-2023

Joan Marie (Estabrooks) Smith – 78, of Kentville, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023 in the Valley Hospice, Kentville. Born in Sackville, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late C. Ray and Anne Mary (Saunders) Estabrooks. Joan worked in hospitality and had been employed with the Sun Valley Motel and Wandlyn Inn. She also worked at Canada Foods, for various doctors offices throughout the area and provided private homecare. She enjoyed all things nature and especially loved watching things come to life in the spring. Joan spent her spare time fishing, camping, dancing, painting, playing crib and darts. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville. Most important to her were her family and friends, she loved people. She is survived by a daughter, Mariea (Evan) Reinke, Montana; a grandchild, Alex Keddy; siblings, Mike (Lynn) Estabrooks, Sackville, New Brunswick; Elizabeth "Beth" (Herbert) Williams, Kentville and Patricia Estabrooks, Sackville, New Brunswick; several nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Reid Douglas "Doug" Smith and special friend, Lloyd Carter. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. A memorial service and gathering will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2024 in the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville. Donations in memory may be made to the Lung Association or the Royal Canadian Legion Kings Branch – Poppy Campaign.
