1958-2024

Pauline Paulette "Polly" (Porter) Johnston

Pauline Paulette "Polly" (Porter) Johnston, 65, of Kentville passed away on March 25, 2024, in the Valley Regional Hospital. Polly was born in the Windsor hospital, and was raised in Centre Burlington, Hants County. She was the chosen daughter of the late Grant and Joan (Benson) Porter.

Growing up in Centre Burlington, Polly was known by those around her as a very happy person. She was a homebody who liked helping her mother around the house with various tasks. Polly loved the beach; her family had a cabin near the water, and she enjoyed her many trips there. Her favourite thing to do; however, was her weekly trips to Windsor with her mom, where they would have lunch, do some grocery shopping, and spend time browsing at Pick’n’Wear.

Polly had a great love for animals, growing up she always had cats and dogs in the home. Later in life she discovered her love of horses, though she never had any of her own, Polly loved getting to visit them. She loved anything horse related, especially movies and television shows. Her favourite show was Heartland, every Christmas she would receive a box set of the season that had aired that year. Polly was very fond of country and western music. She was also known to have a phenomenal memory, if you ever forgot anyone’s birthday or anniversary you would know to just ask Polly.

After the passing of her parents, Polly went to live in the CLAS group home in Kentville where she remained for over 24 years. The residents and workers there became a second family to Polly, she was very happy there. During this time, Polly would spend a lot of time at Applewicks in Wolfville. There she dabbled in weaving and candle making, but what she really excelled at was knitting. Polly learned to knit from her mother, and at Applewicks she would knit the most wonderful hats.

Polly was much loved and will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Polly is survived by her special friend, Jack Williams; CLAS family, Yvonne, Rod, Tracy, Angelina, Tyler, Shawna, and Colin; chosen aunt, Rita Porter; chosen nephew, Andrew Porter and his family, as well as her chosen cousins. In addition to her chosen parents, Polly was predeceased by her chosen brother, Michael Porter, and sister-in-law Joanie Porter.

Polly’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and supervisors in the CLAS home for loving and caring for Polly all these years.
