Alfred Lawrence "Al" Shelton

1944-2024

Alfred Lawrence "Al" Shelton

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alfred Lawrence "Al" Shelton of Greenwich, formerly of New Minas. Al passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, April 13, 2024 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, at the age of 79.

Born in Clyde, AB, he was a son of the late Bruce and Katherine (Patry) Shelton.

Al came to Nova Scotia for a management training program with Zellers and managed many stores throughout the province. Zellers is also where he met his much-loved wife, Sue. He settled in New Minas where he opened his own successful business, Shelton’s Men’s Wear, where, we are sure, quite a few people in the Valley will remember buying their first suit. Al retired from his position as Maintenance Supervisor for Nova Scotia for Irving Oil Ltd. and turned his hobby of cabinet making into a full-time job. Al was a lifetime member and past president of the Kinsmen Club where he enjoyed many years of volunteering and made many lifelong friends.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Susan "Sue"; children; Sylvie, Christopher (Nicole) and Jennifer, (John); grandchildren, Jessica (Nick), Amy (Belle), Lauren and Mae; great-grandson, Jackson; sister, Shirley (Bert); brothers, Dave (Fang) and Jack (Linda); extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Wilbert.

In keeping with Al’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service. Donations in memory may be made to your local food bank. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
