Louise Violet Hockley, RN - 89, of New Minas, Kings County, formerly of Centreville, Kentville and Dartmouth, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, surrounded by family, in Grand View Manor, Berwick, on what would have been a perfect laundry day. Born in Millville, Kings County, on March 7, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Michael MacDonald and Bertha (Joudrey) (MacDonald) (Hennigar).

In 1957, she graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Grace Maternity Hospital, Halifax. She had been employed at hospitals in Halifax and Dartmouth and later in her career, hospitals and nursing homes in the Annapolis Valley.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville. Serving her church, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was involved with church plays and summer camps. She loved playing the piano, knitting, sewing, reading, walking, gardening and watching and feeding the birds (especially hummingbirds). She was also a loyal fan of Acadia University hockey for over 20 years.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, and the love of her life, Frederick "Fred"; four children, James "Jim" (Heather) Hockley, New Minas; Susan (Tom) MacNeil, Dartmouth; Carolyn Hockley, Dartmouth; Jeffrey "Jeff" (Kelly) Hockley, Arlington, Kings County; eight grandchildren, David (Amy) Hockley, Yarmouth; Jason (Joanna) Hockley, Halifax; Matthew MacNeil, Dartmouth; Ryan (Kristen) MacNeil, Antigonish; Nathan Sawicki (Katelyn Murphy), Dartmouth; and Vee Acacia, Halifax; Emma Jane Hockley and Drew Hockley, both of Arlington, Kings County; five great grandsons, Levi and Isaiah Hockley, Yarmouth; Timothy and Oliver Hockley, Halifax; Jackson MacNeil, Antigonish; three brothers, Laverne "Mac" (Karen, deceased) MacDonald, Bedford; Michael (Irene, deceased) MacDonald, Penticton, BC; John (Claudette) MacDonald, Kentville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Vincent and Allan.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by family request. A memorial service will be held at a later date, followed by a burial in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville.
