It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, Anna Maria Raaymakers, 91, on May 16, 2024, in the Valley Hospice in Kentville.

Anna was born May 17, 1932, in Zoeterwoude, The Netherlands. She was the daughter of the late Martinus and Cornelia (deGroot) Elderhorst. She is survived by her loving family of six children, Annemarie (David) Kinsman, Port Elgin, Ontario; Mary (Wayne) Thibeau, Lower Sackville; Elizabeth (Greg) Popowich, Regina; Wilma, East Chester; William (Jessie), Kentville;  Joseph (Candace), London, Ontario; seventeen grandchildren, Angela, Derek, Bryan, Erin, Stephanie, Jillian, Jeffrey, Nicholas, Lucas, Riley, Alexandra, Jacqueline, Kristen, Kyla, Will, Cassandra, and Elaina; fifteen great- grandchildren, Ray, Corey, Alex, Ethan, Benjamin, Ruby, Rachel, Lacey, Mia, Lily, Gray, Callum, Fenna, Rumi, and Bodhi; and two great-great grandchildren Coen and Ivy. She is also survived by her brother Martien and her sister Corrine of Ontario. In addition to her parents, Anna was pre-deceased by her husband, William; siblings, Jan, Jo, Nico, Adrian, Anthony and Lenie; daughter Erdine; grandsons Boyd and Liam; great granddaughter Kingsley.

Anna immigrated to Canada with her family in 1952. She married William in 1968 and started her new life immediately with six of William’s children.  She had her own son Joseph, in 1969. Anna loved the great outdoors and enjoyed hiking, camping, swimming, reading, and singing. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and passionate about supporting many worthwhile charities. 

Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there will be no visitation as per her wishes. A memorial mass to celebrate Anna’s life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24 at St. Joseph’s Church, Kentville. A livestream link will be available for those unable to attend. Interment will take place at St. Charles Cemetery, Amherst, at a later date.

The family would like to give our sincere thanks to Father John of Corpus Christi Parish, the staff and volunteers of the Valley Hospice and Valley Regional Hospital, and to White Family Funeral Home.
