Myrtle Mae (Townsend) Sherman

1934-2024

Myrtle Mae (Townsend) Sherman

Myrtle Mae (Townsend) Sherman, 89, of Kentville, passed away peacefully in Orchard Court-Shannex, Kentville on Sunday, May 12, 2024. Born on May 26, 1934, in West Head, Shelburne Co., she was a daughter of the late Ernest "Mervin" and Arabella "Addie" (Stuart) Townsend.

Myrtle was fiercely loyal to those she loved, and she shared a close bond with her siblings, especially her sister Shirley. She was most happy when the family was all together, and the house was full of songs, stories and laughter. In spite of multiple health challenges Myrtle maintained a love of life and was incredibly tenacious. Extremely talented, she excelled at whatever artistic medium she chose: poetry, pottery, painting, music, sewing, needlework or floral design. She was not afraid to try new things, whether it was learning sign language or taking computer graphic courses and learning an instrument in her senior years.  She loved to keep busy, and would often be found chatting on the phone, knitting or engrossed in a good book.

Myrtle was a very social person and developed many lifelong friendships, with new friends added in recent years from within the Shannex community. She also loved her pets and two in particular that held a special place in her heart were her cat Pixie and Coco, her African Grey parrot.

Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Patricia "Lynn" Townsend, Ottawa, ON; son, Leslie "Russell" Hake (Vicki Zietsoff), Cranbook, BC; stepsons, Elliott Sherman, Ottawa, ON; and David Sherman, Morin Heights, QC; brothers, Terrance (Ruth) Townsend, Ontario; and Russell (Carolyn) Townsend, Halifax; grandchildren, Rivkah, Natalie and Ryan; great-granddaughter, Emily Lynn; great great-grandsons, Garrett and Liam; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Myrtle was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley (George) Crowell; and husbands, Loraine Curll, Gordon Henderson and Samuel Sherman.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. A graveside service will be held in Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. Online condolences and inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
