Matthew "Matth" Cupido

Matthijs "Matthew" "Matth" Cupido – 85, of Canning, passed away in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Born in Friesland, the Netherlands, he was a son of the late Pieter and  Neeltje (Schaap) Cupido.

Matth emigrated to Canada with his family in 1955. In 1980, Matth settled in Canning with his beloved wife, the late Wilhelmina "Willy" (Nederloff) and was well known throughout the Valley for his kind, gentle nature and soft smile. After his wife’s passing in 2014, Matt became in fixture in downtown Kentville, spending his days at the Half Acre Café, chatting with the locals and spending time with his friends.

Matth was an exceptionally talented artist, with paintings and drawings being the subject of numerous exhibitions, both in Canada and abroad. He had a deep faith and was a member of the Wolfville Baptist Church.

Matth is survived by his siblings, Andy, Grace, Fred and John; as well as many close friends who he considered family.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his siblings, Pieter, Jim, Neil and Martin, as well as Bernard and Jan in infancy.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville (with a video webcast available). Rev. Dr. Scott Kindred-Barnes officiating. A reception will follow at Kings Arms Pub, Kentville.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Canning Food Bank, Open Arms or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
