Basil Webster Lenihan

Basil Webster Lenihan – 82 of New Ross, passed away, suddenly, at home on May 30, 2024.

He was a son of the late Webster and Jean (Naugler) Lenihan, New Ross. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan (Keddy); daughter, Katherine Williams (Delbert Sawler); grandsons, Evan Williams, Spencer Williams (Samantha McNutt), Devin Lenihan and Aaron Lenihan, who all meant so much to him; daughter-in-law, Crystal (Dempsey) Lenihan; great-grandson, Liam Williams, whom he adored; brother, Barry (Mona); sister, Mavis (John) Kaulback; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by son, Robert and in-laws, Emmett and Ellen Keddy, The Forties.

Upon graduating from high school, he went to Mack Business College in Kentville, after which he worked at various jobs until his employment with the Department of Highways as a surveyor. One of the jobs he was most proud of was his four years working on the bridge over Shubenacadie River in Maitland. Following his retirement from the Department of Highways, Basil spent the remainder of his working years in the Christmas tree business working alongside his dad and his brother.

He was a volunteer with the New Ross Fire Department. He was also a dedicated member of Christ Anglican Church, New Ross, serving on many of its committees along with being a member of the church choir. He was a committed family man and his hobbies included playing the guitar, singing, playing cards and watching the Toronto Maple Leafs trying to win the Stanley Cup.

Cremation has taken place. The funeral will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 in the Christ Anglican Church, New Ross. Reverend Judi Phillips and Reverend Dawn-Lea Greer officiating. A reception will follow in the New Ross Fire Hall. A private family burial will be held. Donations in Basil’s memory may be made to Christ Anglican Church, New Ross Fire Department or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
