Nancy Ann Worthylake
1950-2024
We are saddened to announce the passing of Nancy Ann Worthylake, age 73, on June 30, 2024, due to complications as the result of an aneurysm.
Survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Ian; son, Keven Smith-Worthylake (Christy, granddaughter, Payton), Ottawa, ON; daughter, Janice Worthylake-Perry, (Mark, grandchildren, Kaleb, Madison, Jaden, Lucas, Kara, great granddaughter, Ivy-Rose), Berwick NS; son, Brian Worthylake (Nicole, grandsons, Conor and Finley), Wheatland County, AB; sister, Donna Poole, Brookside, NS.
Nancy graduated from Acadia University with her Bachelor of Arts, Sociology (1972), and Bachelor of Education (1973). She taught primary for five years at Aldershot Elementary before the birth of son, Keven, and chose to stay home as a full-time mom.
As her own children entered school, Nancy re-entered the work force as a case worker for Big Brothers Big Sisters. She next joined the staff of the 'Mayflower Pre and Afterschool' program. Nancy greatly enjoyed working at Mayflower over the next ten years and provided her with many fond memories.
Looking to expand her knowledge in technology and education, Nancy attended NSCC Kingstec and obtained her Certificate in Office Administration - Information Technology (2002). This allowed her to experience a co-op in the office of Open Acadia at Acadia University. She later successfully applied and worked at Open Acadia full time until joining Ian in retirement in 2005.
Nancy had a strong
commitment to volunteering, notably with the Girl Guides of Canada and
the Kentville Food Bank.
Nancy enjoyed traveling, camping,
and visiting family and friends. She was always drawn to the ocean and
camped near the ocean whenever possible to enjoy the relaxing calm.
Nancy was an accomplished crafter, as well, she enjoyed puzzles and
reading. Together with Ian, they embarked on many adventures and had
matching kayaks and eBikes to keep active. Nancy never stayed still
for very long!
Nancy was well known to love a good deal. She was keen on Tuesdays to get the flyers and hunt down the deals of the week, to be gathered each day, store by store, as the sales started! Her collection of rain checks was impressive.
A special thank you to the Neurology Department of the Halifax Infirmary for the care and compassion shown to Nancy and family.
In keeping with Nancy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A celebration of life will be held between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
