Joyce Winnifred (Kinsman) Brydon
1922-2024
With great sadness in our hearts, the family informs of the passing of our mother, Joyce Winnifred (Kinsman) Brydon at the age of 101, of Black Rock, NS, on Saturday, August 3, 2024 in the Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Joyce was born on the family farm in Grafton, NS on November 25, 1922 to her late parents, William North and Bernice Clara (White) Kinsman.
Joyce was a dedicated and respected lifelong member of the Black Rock Baptist Church, being actively involved and served as the Sunday School Superintendent. She was a member of the Black Rock Women’s Missionary Society, and a Dominion and Provincial life member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She was a faithful servant to her Savior the Lord Jesus Christ and could be seen frequently and regularly reading her Bible.
As one of the founding members of the Black Rock Jolly Workers Sewing Circle, through the years, Joyce spent countless hours sewing, knitting and quilting, and participating in events at the Black Rock Community Centre (Jolly Workers Hall) to help support those in need.
Joyce had a passion for singing which played an important part in her life. With her strong alto voice she enjoyed singing with the family mixed quartet and duets, the Black Rock Church choir, the Somerset choir and the Sweet Adelines Women’s Barbershop Chorus. Often, she could be heard playing the piano for quartets or just a Sunday afternoon family hymn sing.
Joyce was a devoted wife to her husband, and a loving mother to her children and family, serving as the undisputed "matriarch", although always being the quiet one behind the scenes. She had never-ending energy in raising her children, while relentlessly working in the house and kitchen, and helping with farming chores.
She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Livingstone, Berwick; Sheila Faye (Larry) MacDonald, Somerset; two sons, Leslie (Debbie), Newmarket, Ontario; Eric (Lorraine), Black Rock; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Paulette; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sharon (Paul) Kinsman.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Murray, of 75 years; a son, Elvin Brydon; a great-grandson, Adrian Hardman; son-in-law, Lester Livingstone; seven siblings, being the last surviving member of her immediate family.
There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024, in the Black Rock Baptist Church. A private burial for the immediate family only will take place in the West Black Rock Cemetery. No flowers, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Black Rock Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
