Sherrill Gertrude (Best) Murphy
1939-2024
Sherrill Gertrude (Best) Murphy, age 84, of Middleton, NS, formerly of New Minas, NS passed away in Heart of the Valley Long Term Care, Middleton on August 27, 2024. Born October 9, 1939, in Grafton, NS, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Lillian (Pearson) Best.
Sherrill attended Mack Business College, Kentville, NS. She was subsequently employed by Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Truro, NS, where she met her husband, Neil. After living in Montreal, QC and Woodstock, NB, Sherrill and Neil settled in Charlottetown, PEI, where they lived for 14 years. Sherrill was employed by the Bank of Montreal in Charlottetown. Sherrill, Neil and family moved to New Minas in 1981.
After her children were grown, Sherrill worked part-time as an in-store product demonstrator in local grocery stores, a job that suited her to a "T" given her social nature. She was also an avid volunteer in the community. Sherrill loved long walks around the neighborhood, meeting friends old and new at Tim Hortons and being a grandmother. She also enjoyed music and sweet treats.
Sherrill is survived by her daughter, Nova Lee Murphy, Montreal, QC; son Patrick (Michele) Murphy, Gainesville, Florida; grandson, Davis Murphy, Gainesville; granddaughter Hannah Murphy, Gainesville; sisters, Janet (Jim) Cross, Vancouver, BC and Audrey Eaton, Kingston, NS; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sherrill was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Neil (2020).
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Greg White officiating. Interment will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Heart of the Valley for all their care and support over the last four years. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
