Mary Gladys (Crowell) Melvin
August 19, 1932 – September 30, 2024
It is with heavy
hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Gladys Melvin
(née Crowell) on the morning of Monday, September 30, 2024,
at the age of 92. Born in Horton Landing on August 19, 1932, Mary was
the daughter of the late Daniel and Gladys Crowell and was a resident
of Wolfville in her later years.
Mary’s life was one of resilience, fierce independence,
loyalty, and hard work. Known for her no-nonsense attitude and quick
wit, Mary did not suffer fools lightly, but she was incredibly
generous with a big heart; she could always be trusted to be there for
anyone in times of need. Her home was a gathering place, where she
hosted big family dinners, made legendary pies, and brought everyone
together with her infectious sense of humor. She was adored by her
grandchildren and great grandchildren who could always count on a
sweet from 'Nanny'. She was the life of every party and was beloved by
all who truly knew her. Mary’s love for bingo was
well-known, and the joy she took in sharing meals and laughter with
her family will be remembered for generations to come.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; her parents,
Daniel and Gladys Crowell; her brothers, Edward and Arthur Crowell;
and her sister, Gertrude. She is survived by her sister, Helen.
She leaves behind her children, Rose (Floyd)
Davidson, Grand Pré; Jim (Tina) Melvin, Port Williams;
Barbara (Vance) Kelley, Wolfville; Kevin (Nancy) Melvin, Wolfville;
Linda (the late Fred) Norton, Lockhartville.
Her grandchildren, Kristyna (Michael) Vogel, Vancouver; Jeanette
Kelley, Kentville; Anthony Melvin, Grand Pré; Melanie
Melvin, Kentville; Amanda Kelley, Grand Pré; Kandy (Ryan)
Broughm, NB; Jennifer Melvin, Falmouth; Tracy Davidson, Grand
Pré; Kenny (Jessie) Norton, Toronto; Michelle Melvin,
Kentville; Breanne Melvin, Wolfville; her great-grandchildren, Alisha,
Bronwyn, Brayden, Emma, Maria, Oona, Michael, Hadley, Kenzie,
Brooklyn, Bryson, Lauren, Linden, Lillee, Ellie and Jack.
Mary will be deeply missed, but the love, laughter, and
wisdom she shared with her family and friends will live on in the
hearts of all who knew her. She was, and always will be, loved.
