Thomas "Tom" Bernely Cann

Thomas "Tom" Bernely Cann – 72, of Hantsport, formerly of Avonport, passed away peacefully in the QEII-Halifax Infirmary, Halifax, on Monday, October 21, 2024 with his wife and daughter by his side. Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Hugh "Bernely" and Emma Kathleen "Kit" (Durkee) Cann.  

Tom started his working career in the parts and service department of Cornwallis Motors, New Minas, continuing in the industry with Sampson Honda, Kentville as the service manager. Later he was the owner and operator of the Kwik-Way store in Avonport. Tom also worked for the Avonport Post office as the Postmaster, from where he retired.  

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Joyce (Moore); daughter, Andrea Cann-Tracey (Dean Tracey), Hantsport; brother, Forrester (Bev) Cann, Kentville; grandchildren, Kurt and Serj Tracey; and in-laws, Janet Moore (Kentville), Jean Teal (New Minas), and Paul (Jacqui) Moore (Griffin, SK), several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family, along with beloved dog, Callie.   

He was predeceased by his parents, and in-laws, Marjorie and Herman Manthorne, Ted Teal and Robert Moore. 

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service (with livestream) will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2024 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville with a reception to follow. Reverend Jennifer Riley officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sackville.  

Donations in memory may be made to the Neurosurgery Kids Fund or the IWK Children’s Hospital.
