William C. "Bill" Sweet
1939-2024
William C. Sweet, born May 24, 1939 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia passed peacefully October 22, 2024. Bill was the only child of the late William and Helen (Loner) Sweet. He is survived by his loving wife Gwen; sons Brad (Patricia) and their children, Emily, Olivia, Caty and Elijah, and Chris (Tamara) and their children, Riley and Evan. He was predeceased by son Craig in 1981.
Bill was active in the Avonport community where he resided most of his life. As a youngster he played hockey for the Wolfville Falcons and was a member of the team when they won the Nova Scotia Mainland Hockey Championship, Intermediate A in 1959-60. He left school early to apprentice as a bricklayer with E. J. & L. D. Carey Masonry Ltd., then in 1968 he formed his own masonry company which he operated for 42 years until retiring in 2010.
He was dedicated to his family, had a playful sense of humour and loved to beautify his property, both at home and at the cottage on Aylesford Lake creating wonderful flower beds everywhere. Married to Gwen for 62 years, they spent many happy summers entertaining at the cottage (the B&G+3), watching the grandchildren and their friends enjoy the water activities as much as their own children did. He and Gwen square danced for many years and gained lifetime friends that still get together in the summertime. In their later years they enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, always making friends along the way.
Bill wasn’t much for idle talk, but enjoyed teasing folks, often offering the grandkids a few dollars so they could buy new jeans without holes in them! He attended Acadia hockey games faithfully and enjoyed watching other sports on TV. Bill was never idle for long but in his spare time he enjoyed crossword and jig saw puzzles.

"He lived a life full of love, laughter and kindness, leaving behind a legacy built not in the things he owned, but in the hearts of those he touched"
