Margaret "Diane" Marsters

1946-2024

Margaret "Diane" Marsters

Margaret "Diane" Marsters, a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, left us peacefully on October 18, 2024. Born in Kentville on August 19, 1946, Diane dedicated her life to the unwavering support of her family and friends. Known for her straightforwardness, she never sugar-coated her words but delivered them with a generous dose of her razor-sharp sarcasm and humor.

Affectionately known as Hunky Dory, Molly, Lucy, Di, or simply Mom, Diane is survived by her devoted daughters, Kerri (Jeff) and Amy; her sisters Ann and Debby (Russell); numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many dear family and friends. She was predeceased by her adored husband Larry, (https://www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com/obituaries/180114) and in the five short weeks without him, it was clear to all how dearly she missed him. It’s fair to say she passed from a broken heart, and though her departure leaves an immense void, we take comfort knowing they are reunited once again.

Diane began her career after attending Mack Business College, spending many years working at the Royal Bank of Canada while Larry started out at the Berwick Bakery. One of their favorite stories was when Diane asked Larry why he hadn’t brought any bread home from the bakery. He replied, "For the same reason you didn’t bring any money home from the bank!"

Together, they purchased their first home, a new house on Lawrence Avenue, a source of great pride for them both. Their time in Berwick created many cherished memories with lifelong friends and family. After moving to West Paradise, Diane focused on her family. She showed her kindness and love through food, perfecting her baking skills during these years. Affectionately known for her legendary "Di’s Pies," she also spoiled us with whoopie pies, donuts, cinnamon buns, and egg tarts. No Christmas was complete without Grams’ plum pudding with hard sauce, birthdays were celebrated with everyone's favorite money cake and ice cream, and of course everything stopped for fudge! There were always plenty of choices, keeping with Trask tradition, where you never have to choose just one dessert!

Life in "Paradise" (Mom would roll her eyes at this) left plenty of time for hobbies. One of Diane and Larry’s favorite pastimes was gardening. Diane had a love for flowers, especially her roses, and would spend winter hours planning their gardens. She also enjoyed puzzles, working on her annual Christmas newsletters and was an avid quilter, a hobby she pursued with her mother, sisters, and neighbors, sharing lots of laughter while stitching away.

Diane spent many years as secretary and clerk at Bridgetown United Baptist Church and was an active member of the Women’s Fellowship. She loved decorating the church and organizing special projects such as the stained glass windows and the infamous 200th Anniversary Recipe Book.

Music held a special place in Diane’s heart and it was always playing in the background. She was a talented pianist, spending many hours playing at weddings, church events, and other special occasions. She later played at Mountain Lea Lodge, providing entertainment with everything from church hymns to favorite songs from the past and present. Diane enjoyed the many years working and volunteering at Mountain Lea Lodge and held many fond memories of times spent with residents and staff alike.

Diane was happiest at home, and she was content in her retirement years as she cared for her family and friends, home and gardens. She appreciated her comfortable surroundings at Orchard Court, enjoying the coziness of her room and good food while keeping an eye on everyone, especially Dad! Her biggest complaint was that she didn’t have a kitchen anymore and missed doing the dishes!

As per Diane’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a small gathering will be held at a later date, with details to follow. We extend our thanks to the staff at Orchard Court for the care they provided to both Mom and Dad over the years, making them feel loved and at home. A special thank you to all healthcare professionals and the White Family Funeral Home as well, for their compassionate support during difficult times.
