Victoria Justine Misner
1948-2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Victoria Justine Misner, 76, of Coldbrook, who passed away at home on Friday, January 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Victoria was the devoted wife of 58 wonderful years to Garnet Misner. She was an adoring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to: David (Sandra); granddaughter, Courtney Munro (Tom) and great-grandchildren, Jaxx and Hudson of Sylvan Lake, Alberta; Craig (Melanie); grandson, Daylon; step-grandsons, Logan and Connor of Kentville; Jason (Melanie); granddaughters, Emilie and Evangeline of Welland, Ontario; Derek (Mandy); granddaughter, Sylvia of Dawson Creek, British Columbia; and Shannon,of Coldbrook; and beloved "granddog grammie" to Sailor, who she adored. She also leaves behind her sisters, Judy (Wilson) Crann, Shelly Palmer, Joann (Tim) Jones; brother, Gerry Palmer; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Priscilla "Pat" (Kynock) Palmer; her in-laws, Charles and Berdie Misner; and sister, Karen (Jim) Galliott.
Born in Kentville, Mom moved to Ontario as a child but often returned to Nova Scotia to visit her grandparents. It was during one of those trips that she met her husband, Garnet, who soon left Centreville to follow his true love to Ontario, where they were married and started their family. After several years, they returned to Nova Scotia where Mom dedicated her life to raising her children. From a young age, she dreamed of being a mother and made sure to make that dream come true. She stayed home caring for us all, as well as her siblings’, friends’, and neighbors’ children when we were young. As we got older, she carried on that dream by working at Evergreen Home for Special Care for 30 years, with the last 5 years in the children’s ward, caring for the residents and making many friends along the way.
Mom was adventurous at heart, cherishing her trips to the South Shore to visit Mahone Bay and always trying to catch a peek at the action on Oak Island. There were countless weekend trips away with her sisters and brother, with her keeping them all laughing with her dry, quick sense of humor and contagious laugh. Her youthful spirit always had her up for fun – dancing the night away at parties, in her basement, or hotel room; playing cards until the early hours; celebrating her love for the holidays decorating the house and getting family together; road trips, even spontaneous ones, with no destination that once ended with her and dad at Rita’s Tea Room in Cape Breton; and never missing the chance to make everyone’s birthday extra special with balloons, games, prizes, and cake.
With all the happiness she has, nothing compared to the love, joy, and devotion she had for her family. She tenderly cared for her father and grandmother in her home until their final days. Every addition to the family filled her heart with joy. She dropped everything and would quickly plan a trip to welcome her new grandchildren and great-grandchildren with tender hugs and kisses. Even from afar, she made all of us feel cherished with parcels adorned with stickers and filled with presents and treats to celebrate Valentine’s Day, birthdays, Easter, and Christmas. Her dedication was so profound that a local courier created the "Misner’s Specials" business account to honor her efforts. The door was always open, welcoming our friends and becoming a second mother to them, ready with snacks and a warm smile - even if their music was not her first choice. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her and they will eagerly share stories of how extraordinary she was.
Mom was our rock, the best-mom-ever, and our best friend! Her legacy of strength, love, kindness, and joy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
We want to extend a special thank you to Tara from palliative care who went above and beyond for mom and our family; Dr. Karen Burch and all the wonderful nurses and staff at VON who were so great to Mom; and our thoughtful neighbors caring for us with food and visits during these last 4 years.
A ceremony to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
