1963-2025

Joseph Allen "Joe" Benjamin

It is with heavy hearts the family of Joseph Allen "Joe" Benjamin, 61, of Meadowview, announces his unexpected passing on Monday, March 3, 2025. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Donald and Winnifred (DeEll) Benjamin.

Joe grew up in the community of Sheffield Mills, and in his early years you could find him working at the Irving Service Station. Joe was a custodian for Sodexo Physical Plant for 25 years and was a part-time custodian with Ken-Wo Golf Course for 12 years. As the unofficial "Mayor of Meadowview" Joe poured his heart and soul into helping to develop the Meadowview Development Association in which he served as President for 11 years. He was devoted to his community and ensured that many families, friends and neighbours had an inviting place to hold their special events at the Meadowview Hall. Joe was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 for his volunteer work and subsequently was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022 for his instrumental part in getting the foot bridge restored, continued volunteer work and willingness to help his neighbours and community.

Joe will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Sylvia (Graves) Stevenson; and his bonus children, Peter (Laura) Stevenson and Rose Stevenson; beloved granddaughters, Kyla, Simone (Rhys) and Savanna; his favourite grandson, Terrell (Meghan); brothers, Paul (Charlotte) Benjamin and Carl Benjamin; and sisters, Helen Ruggles and Erlene Strong; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.
