"The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever." John 2:17

Reverend Ellen Margaret (Bentley) Hunt was born on July 20, 1949, in Windsor, Nova Scotia, to the late Gerald and Mary (Dunbar) Bentley. Ellen grew up in the village of Ellershouse, Hants County. Ellen passed away on June 4, 2025.

Ellen is survived by her loving husband of nearly 48 years, Harold Hunt; their children, Lisa and David Penzer, Louise and Randy Vautour, Michael and Janice, Carlene and Kenneth, Jason and Amy, Harold and Heidi; grandchildren, Jarrett, Dillon, Carmen, Brittany, Mitchell (Melanie), Dawson (Kaitlin), Kallie, Benjamin (Kayla), Mason, Hudson, Joshua, Sarah, Ethan; great-granddaughter, Emory; siblings, Douglas, Vera, Elizabeth and John Boomgaars; brother and sister-in-law, Moe and Valerie Hunt; many nieces and nephews and extended family as well as special friend, Pat Crowell and best friend and furry companion, Taylor.

She was predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Mary; brother, Stuart; sister, Kathleen; nieces, Susan and Karen, mother and father-in-law, Roy and Dorothy.

Ellen was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces, serving for over 20 years. Spending most of her career at MTC Aldershot, she obtained the rank of Master Warrant Officer. After her retirement from the military, she worked at various retail outlets and provided private seamstress service making many beautiful prom dresses, wedding gowns and almost anything anyone needed. She was a very gifted artisan who crocheted, knitted and crafted many beautiful works. She was an exceptional baker known for her fudge, apple pies, Belly Button Cookies, and molasses cookies, which she made by the dozens and always ensured Roy and Dorothy received their own containers. Over 25 years ago, Ellen found the Lord and accepted him as her Saviour. She was baptized at Lumsden Dam, attended Acadia Divinity College and was ordained in Moncton. Her second career in service to the Lord saw her supporting several churches at Forest Hill, Upper Vaughn and Lockhartville. She provided compassionate care and support to many in the community, making a positive impact to those in need, including Veterans.

As a child, Ellen enjoyed exploring the nearby brook and woods with her siblings and especially loved berry picking with her father, until she found the patch of poison ivy. Her love of nature continued, and she delighted in the world around her. Her home on the beautiful Ridge and its surrounding fields, the chickadees, pheasants and soaring eagles, beachcombing for treasures which were interesting rocks, shells, sea glass and drift wood. She enjoyed flowers of all kinds, but gazanias were her favourite. Fitting as they are also known as treasure flowers. She was a supportive cheerleader to her children and grandchildren and enjoyed a good hockey game, speedskating, curling, listening to the honour choir and Harold play guitar and singing at home. Ellen had a deep and dedicated love for Harold. They shared many wonderful years together making memories. They especially enjoyed their trips to the camp in Mooseland with friends who became family Ronnie and Sis Spencer. She loved listening to the loons calling at night on the lake. They also treasured their trips to the South Shore to visit with Doug and Juanita Nickerson where the conversations and catching up went well into the night and early morning. She loved to read and expand her knowledge and kept many written notes and treasures within the pages of her cherished books. Ellen will be deeply missed by her family and loved ones. There is now a missing link in our family chain. However, we are comforted in knowing she is reunited in Heaven with her beloved brother, Stuart, parents, sister and nieces.
