Kenneth George Fraser

1936-2025

Kenneth George Fraser

Kenneth George Fraser, 89, of Kingston, NS passed away at Valley Hospice in Kentville, NS on Friday, October 24, 2025. Born in Dartmouth, Ken was the only son of George and Sadie (Croucher) Fraser. Growing up there, he loved participating in many sports.

There were numerous jobs held throughout his life. Selling cars in two provinces, running his welding company of 128 employees who were working on an oil refinery in Port Hawkesbury, and lobster fishing in North Lake, PEI (the center of the world in his mind!). This led to tuna chartering and fishing.

By 1979, Ken had caught many tuna, but this year was a game changer when he broke the world record with his legendary 1496 pound Atlantic bluefin tuna. He still holds this record after 46 years. After fishing for 10 years, he moved his family to Charlottetown, where he worked for Roy Creed Petroleum for 10 years. Coaching high school hockey was a big part of his life in Souris and led to more coaching in the city.

The year Ken turned 60, he bought a campground in Bridgetown, NS where he stayed for 22 years. This was his favourite job, being both physical and social. While there, he served on the town council and enjoyed playing pool at the Legion, where he usually won the pot.

Ken found time to write two books about tuna fishing adventures – his and others. As the unofficial ambassador of catch and release, he was invited to give talks in Paris, New York City, and Perth, Australia. He and Marilyn retired to Kingston in 2018 where he loved to mow grass, plow snow, interact with neighbours, and enjoy their beloved COVID cat, Biden.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn (Chute) Mosher, and her family; his children, Michael (Lorrie), Laurie, Rob, and Dwayne; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Thorburn, and his second wife, Madge Mugford, plus his daughter, Leslie, and his son, Alex.

A special thank you to VON, Valley Hospice, Meraki Home Care (Dana and Samantha), and Kimberley Chute for end-of-life care.
