Cody Robert Olmstead

Cody Robert Olmstead, 39, of Berwick, Nova Scotia, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026.  Born in Kentville, he was the son of Suzanna "Suzy" Thorpe and the late Robert Malcolm Olmstead.

Cody was a man whose life was rooted in love, laughter, and the outdoors. He found peace and joy in fishing, hunting, camping, and simply being in the woods, and was happiest when surrounded by nature. Music moved him deeply, and he loved to sing, dance, and carry on, often using humor, teasing, and jokes to lift the spirits of everyone around him. Tough and strong on the outside, he was soft-hearted, caring, and thoughtful at his core, with a huge kind heart and a bravery that showed itself most clearly when standing up for the people he loved.

He was strong-willed and outspoken about what he believed in, never afraid to speak up or step in when someone needed support. He loved learning new things and was always ready to help anyone with whatever needed doing. He was a big kid at heart, he adored animals and children, and in any household full of kids, you were far more likely to find him laughing and playing with them than sitting with the adults.

He dreamed of a big farm filled with animals and a large garden, a place full of life and warmth. He cherished quiet moments just as much as lively ones, especially snuggling up for movie nights with his number one lady and their kiddo. He was the proudest stepdad to Julia, loving her more than life itself. His passions also included collecting knives and learning about guns, interests he pursued with curiosity and enthusiasm. Many will fondly remember his beautiful, long, thick dark eyelashes, which seemed to draw envy his entire life.

Above all else, he loved his family and friends. At the end of every day, family came first, and they always knew where they stood with him. He enjoyed sharing a good buzz on with anyone willing to join, but it was his loyalty, warmth, and unwavering love that defined him most. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his generous spirit, his laughter, and the way he made people feel seen, protected, and loved.

He is survived by his fiancé, Arielle Nickerson; mother, Suzanna Leigh "Suzy" Thorpe; sisters, Keshia Marie Olmstead, Joleen Lynett Olmstead, and Andrea Dawn Olmstead; daughter, Julia Marie Ley; his one chosen brother, Richard Wright; nieces, Courtney Pretty, AmberLee Baker and Brittany Olmstead; nephew, Michael Archer, and many extended family and friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Robert Olmstead; nephew, Brandon William Baker, and both paternal and maternal grandparents.
