Irlene Elizabeth Hamilton
1928-2026
Irlene Elizabeth Hamilton, 97, with her daughter and granddaughter each holding a hand, gently and peacefully slipped into the arms of her Saviour Jesus Christ on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Waterville, Nova Scotia, on August 28, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Marion (Pinch) Strong.
The highlight of her life was meeting her husband Don who she described as the love of her life. Don was devoted to her, cherishing and adoring her. Irlene worked for many years at R.D. Chisholm, spending many Christmas seasons in the toy department. Summers spent at their Medford Beach cottage became her happiest place, where she found peace and happiness by the water. She loved being in the strawberry fields, and was still picking berries at age 91. In more recent years, she enjoyed living at Kings Riverside Court, where she was content and happy enjoying her friends and acquaintances.
She is survived by her sisters, Shirley Reading and Marguerite Agovino; daughters, Dianne Hamilton and Debbie Hamilton; granddaughter, Amarea (Peter) Greenlaw; and great grandchildren, Hunter and Abigail.
In addition to her parents, Irlene is predeceased by her husband, Donald "Don" Hamilton; sisters, Jean (Len) Dotten, Evelyn (Elmer) Anderson; brothers, Wilfred Jr. (Polly) Strong, Carl (Rosaline) Strong, Bud (Helen) Strong; brothers-in-law, William (Marguerite) Agovino and Wray "Muck" (Shirley) Reading.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at King’s Riverside Court for their care, kindness, and dignity they provided over the years with a special mention to her good friend Della. Also special thanks to the dedicated nurses at the Transitional Care Unit of Valley Regional Hospital - Kristin, Brian, Trudy, Jenna, and Deanna, whose patience, warmth, and professionalism brought comfort during a difficult time. The family is deeply grateful to Dr. Heslor for his attentive care and guidance. Your support and compassion will always be remembered and sincerely appreciated.
Cremation has taken place. A family graveside service will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026. Donations in memory may be made to Kentville Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville
