Lewis Allen "Lew" Melvin
1948-2026
Lew went peacefully to be with his lord and savior on Saturday June 6, 2026, in the presence of his wife, while holding hands and talking about Jesus and Heaven. The last few days of his precious life were spent in prayer, bible readings and his wife singing to him. Lew was the son of the late James Melvin and Marjorie (Haley) Melvin. He was born on December 11, 1948, in Kentville, Nova Scotia.
Lew is survived by his wife, Leighanna (Shaw) Melvin; daughters, Angela (Paul), and Jill (Stu); stepchildren, Jesse (Jessica), Sarah (Ryan); grandson, Steven Melvin, who knew him as "Boppy"; bonus grandchildren, Kaiden, Madison, Jagger and Jemma, who knew him as "Grumpy’ -which was funny, he was anything but grumpy. He is also survived by a brother, Ivan (Evva); sisters, Mary-Lee (Ron) and his baby sister, Darlene; brother-in-law, Gerry (Pam) Shaw, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, including a special aunt Maudie (Roy) who helped Lew and his wife start a successful restaurant, Callister's.
Lew was loved by all who knew him! He was known as being a lovely person. He even worked in the funeral business with Cyril many years ago.
He was predeceased by his first wife Trudy, his parents, aunts, uncles, nephew, Les, and a sibling, Beverly, during childhood.
Lew gave his heart to Christ many years ago becoming a Christian and serving God with all he had. Before his illness 12 years ago he was studying to become a pastor! He had many jobs in his life, but God was the core of who he had become.
He had a great love for people and wanted to help wherever he could. Donations in his memory may be made to the soup kitchen, through Valley Connect Outreach.
We will miss him terribly.
Special thanks to Grand View Manor for the care he received in his last couple years. Thank you to longtime friend Cyril White, who went above and beyond. Thank you as well to special friend, Dorothy Huntley, for always being there.
A funeral service for Lew will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in the White Family Funeral Home, with a private burial to follow in Jawbone Corner Cemetery, Canard.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. Online condolences and inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
