With heavy hearts that we announce that Basil Clyde Butler passed away on June 6, 2026, in the Valley Hospice, Kentville, surrounded by his loved ones after losing his battle to cancer. He was 77.

He was married twice, Brenda Adams and Betty Young; and has eight wonderful children, sons, Clyde, Ricky (Julie), and Jeremy, and daughters Cheryl, Lindsey (Kyle), and Crystal; brothers, Bimbo (Wilma), Brucey, Terry (Lisa), and Jeffery (Carla); and his sisters, Dorothy, Shirley, and Linda Strong. He also leaves behind 22 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and multiple great-great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly.

Born on December 29, 1948, he was a son of the late, Myrna and Ernest Butler. He was also predeceased by his brother, Robert; his sisters, Donna, Elizabeth, and Mary; his daughter, Rachel Butler; and his son, Rodger Butler (Krista).

Throughout his life, Basil was known for his strong work ethic. He worked for Farmer John (John Lohr), Basinview Farms, Oxford Frozen Foods, and as a roofer with A&B Roofing. He was also known for selling adult beverages on the side of Glenmont Mountain in Canning.

For the last 15 years, Basil became a fixture in the New Ross community, selling fresh fruits and vegetables, going home to home to the many lives he treasured. In the earlier years, he was often accompanied by his granddaughter, Star. Basil cherished the friendships he built and the many people whose lives he touched along the way. To many, he truly was the heart and soul of New Ross.

In keeping with Basil's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A funeral service (with livestream) will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Interment will be held in the New Ross Anglican Cemetery, at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at Valley Hospice for their care.
