Audrey Frances Young

1938-2026

Audrey Frances Young

The family of Audrey Frances Young – 88 of Parkers Cove and formerly of Kentville, are deeply sadden by her passing on Sunday, June 14, 2026 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, Born in West Dalhousie, Audrey was the daughter of the late Warren and Alberta (Veinott) Fredericks. She grew up in Carleton Corner and attended school in Bridgetown. She began working as a live-in nanny while still attending school. She trained at the Children’s Hospital in Halifax and left before completion. Her classmates remained close and she attended reunions with them later in her life. She was a switchboard operator at the telephone office in Annapolis Royal before marrying Stewart Young in 1960 and moving to Kentville. During her life in Kentville, family came first. Audrey was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma. She was a dedicated homemaker, excellent cook and baker. She shared the fruits of these efforts with the Kentville Baptist Church Ladies Auxiliary when called upon. She also worshipped and quilted there. We all remember getting ready for Sunday School! Audrey enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays and made our home festive for these occasions. She placed great importance on giving carefully chosen cards to family and friends for all occasions. Impromptu tea parties provided fond memories for her grandchildren. Throughout her life, Audrey enjoyed swimming, skating, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, square dancing and most recently Bocce. She sewed, knitted, crocheted, embroidered, quilted and hooked. Books and evening classes helped to develop skills in typing, calligraphy and ceramics. She learned, then taught her children as they showed an interest. Audrey volunteered her time and energy in the community by canvassing for various charities including the Canadian Red Cross, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Kidney Foundation and others. She participated in special school activities with her children and grandchildren. She held the title "Snowy Owl" with the Kentville Brownies and even went to Hardwood Lake Camp. In her later years, the Ladies Luncheon group was a monthly highlight. In 2023, Audrey moved to Parkers Cove and embraced life on the shore. She marveled at each sunset! The Centre of Rural Aging and Health (CORAH) provided interesting activities which she attended weekly, making new friends. She was able to do many of her favourite things until shortly before her passing. Audrey is survived by her daughters, Angela (Derek) Gee, Kentville; Cynthina Young, Parkers Cove and Janet (Shaun) Cameron, North Alton; grandchildren, Janet, David (Marcie), and Steven Gee, Taylor (Greg) Milne and Aaron Cameron; great grandchildren, Mya and Malcolm McDermott, Vance and Ira Gee and Calvin Milne; brother-in-law, Garnett (Anna) Hannam; several nieces and nephews. Audrey was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Stewart Young; her parents; sisters, Goldie Vidito, May Harris and Joan Hannam; brothers, Warren and Jack Fredericks. The family is thankful for those who have offered kind and caring thoughts and prayers. A special thank you to the Valley Regional Hospital for the gentle, loving care our mother received and the VON for many hours of encouragement and companionship.
