Wade Kimber Rafuse

Wade Kimber Rafuse

October 4, 1945 – June 15, 2026

We are very saddened to announce that Wade passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2026.

Wade was a very loving family man, always there to do anything for his children, and his children for him. He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Rafuse (Snell), of 47 years. He and Virginia spent their retirement years making wooden crafts and furniture, with Virginia adding the final touch with her talented, unique paintings, many of which are now treasures, and reminders in all of their families’ homes.

In Wade's younger years, he was an avid traveler but eventually made his way back to his hometown of New Ross, meeting the love of his life and having three beautiful children, Laura Rafuse, New Ross; Stacey Chandler (Keith), Upper Vaughan; Jake Rafuse (Kimberley), New Ross; grandchildren, Sam (Kayla), Abbey, Charlie, Nick (Mackenzie), Jaden (Emma). Ben (Emily), Josie (Joey), Luke, Willow and great-grandchildren, Layla, Ellis, Miley and another one the way.

Wade was predeceased by his parents, Haddon Rafuse and Alma (O'Leary) Rafuse; sisters Mabel, (Eldridge Crossley) of New Ross; Carmen (Ernie Canning) of Ontario; Frances (Ronnie LaVallee) of Berwick; Madeline (Arch Walker) of New Ross; Loretta Crawford of Chester, and Beatrice Rafuse of Chester; as well as brothers, Curtis and Vearl of New Ross, and Ernie of Chester. He is survived by his brothers, Max (Isabel) of Beaver Bank and Bob (Lorraine) of New Ross.

Wade, along with his wife, Virginia, managed to raise a very close, happy and loving family, in which they made many wonderful memories. They provided guidance, comfort, safety and patience to their entire family, and all were always welcomed in their times of need. Wade and Virginia were both exceptional parents and friends, willing to give their heart, sweat and soul to anyone in need.

After the loss of Virginia, Wade's family grew even closer, and stronger and supported each other though all of life's challenges, with the simple moments becoming more meaningful, whether it was playing countless games of crib, having morning coffees, drives, phone chats, sharing meals, philosophical debates, sleepovers, and celebrations. He, along with his children, Laura, Stacey and Jake (and his many grand and great grandchildren), shared years filled with laughter, stories, and friendly competition. No matter how busy life became, he remained at the center of his family, and the rock that his family shared their trials and tribulations with.

Wade was a great cook and was very proud of his meals and especially his famous stews and soups which he loved to share, along with amazing breakfasts that he made whenever his family would have a sleepover. Just as important were the evening phone calls with all of his children, which always ended with, "Good night and God bless." These daily moments became treasured memories and a testament to the love, comfort, and unwavering presence Wade brought to his family’s lives. Though his family’s hearts are broken, they are grateful for every moment they shared with Wade.

Wade always had a unique sense of humor, and was a prankster that kept you on your toes. He had a true competitive love for crib, and thousands upon thousands of games were played around his table. Especially when his great friend of many years, Wayne Nicks, got together, the cards were flying. Wade’s home was always surrounded with bouquets of flowers, home cooked meals and treats, his fridge covered in art, and his special rocks, which were all signs of how his family and grandchildren adored him.

Wade had an adventurous life which took him all across the country, including falling out of a bush plane in the NWT, surveying with polar bears in Nunavut, boxing in Ottawa, doing geology in northern Quebec, working in mines in NS and more recently working on the Confederation bridge to PEI, as well as many other things. Although what he cherished most was the friends he made along the way, and the smiles and laughter he brought to all of those he worked with, many of who became long time friends that endured forever. Wades companion Roxy, was forever by his side, the loving little beagle was often spoiled but always comforting.

Although Wade had some health issues over the past few years, he always stayed strong and persevered through everything that came his way. He never gave up, and his strong faith never waivered though it all.

His family takes comfort in knowing that Wade is now at home with the Lord, reunited with his loving wife, Virginia, as well as his other loved ones who have moved on before him.

There will be a private family gathering at a later date. In lieu of donations, a random act of kindness to others, in Wades honor, would be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
