Dorothy May Lowthers

January 31, 1941 – June 18, 2026

Dorothy May (Coldwell) Lowthers - age 85, passed away in the Wolfville Nursing Home, with her two surviving sisters at her side.

Born in Wolfville on January 31, 1941, she was one of eight children born to the late John C. and Alice (Lewis) Coldwell.

Dorothy received her education in Avonport, Hantsport and Macks Business College, Kentville. She was employed at several jobs before entering the Royal Canadian Air Force. After several years in the Air Force, she joined Maritime Tel & Tel as a phone operator where she retired after 30 plus years. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America.

Dorothy is survived by sisters, Annie-Laurie Bird and Lolita Crosby; special brother-in-law, Bruce Lowthers, Kentville; and brother-in-law, James Lowthers, Truro; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Having no children of their own, when a young toddler, Ross Charnock, met them he became very special to them over the years and remains a cherished survivor.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Allen Lowthers; brothers, Charles, William, John "David"; sisters, Eudora (Patterson), Beta (Jordan); brothers-in-law, St. Clair (Joe) Patterson, Avery Bird, William Crosby; and sisters-in-law, Fern (Nowlan) Jean (Nowlan) and Gladys (Corcoran Webster).

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service for Dorothy and her late husband, Allen, will be held in Lower Horton Cemetery, Grand Pré on Friday, July 10th at 3 p.m. Reverend Quincy Collins officiating. Donations in memory may be made to Avonport Baptist Church. Thank you to Dr. Burgoyne, the staff at Wolfville Nursing Home and special appreciation to Elwood Morine for the extra personal care he gave to Dorothy. Thank you and God Bless. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
