Jessica Marie Hurwood (Newell)
1983-2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jessica Marie Hurwood (Newell), who passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and closest friends at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Jessica was born on December 20, 1983, in Kentville, Nova Scotia, to the late Sandra Mae Smith (Briand). She was 42 years old.
Jessica was a devoted wife, cherished sister, loving aunt, loyal friend, coworker and someone who truly made the world a kinder place. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Grayson Hurwood of White Rock, Nova Scotia, her brother, Christopher Newell (Alicia) of Napanee, Ontario, her nieces and nephews, her beloved dog, Bubby and the many friends whose lives she touched.
Born with a heart condition, Jessica spent much of her childhood in hospitals. Despite the challenges she faced, she lived with extraordinary strength, resilience, and a heart overflowing with love. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome, valued, and important.
Jessica was known throughout Kentville and the surrounding area for her genuine kindness and infectious warmth. Whether she was at work or simply out in the community, she always made time to stop for a conversation, ask how someone was doing, or share a smile that could brighten even the hardest day. She celebrated the successes of others, welcomed people with open arms, and had a rare ability to make everyone feel like a friend. If you ever met Jessica, chances are she greeted you with a warm hug, remembered your name, and left you feeling just a little happier than before. Her compassion and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Jessica loved playing bingo, trying new restaurants, going on adventures, and making memories with family and friends. Her beloved dog, Bubby, was never far from her side and brought her endless joy. Above all else, she treasured every moment with her husband, Grayson. Their love was deep, unwavering, and filled with laughter, friendship, and devotion.
A celebration of Jessica’s life will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at White Family Funeral Home in Kentville, Nova Scotia, with a reception to follow. Everyone is welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to honour Jessica by doing something kind for someone else—a hug, a conversation, planting a sunflower, or an unexpected act of generosity. The greatest tribute to her life is not a donation alone, but a life lived with the same compassion she showed every day. If you wish, donations may also be made to the IWK Foundation in Jessica’s memory.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the love Jessica gave so freely and the countless memories she leaves behind. Rest in peace, Jessica. We love you to the moon and back. Your warm heart, beautiful soul, and radiant smile will remain in our hearts forever.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. Online condolences and inquiries may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
