James Pierre Belen

James Pierre Belen

James Pierre Belen – 55 of Kentville, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Halifax, James was the son of Dr. Jaime and Nerie (Foronda) Belen, Inverness. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Lisa (Margeson); children, MacKenzie and Callum, both at home; sister, Hope Polkinghorne, Vancouver; brother, Paul (Heather), Halifax; In-laws, Cathy MacKenzie, Wolfville and father-in-law, Walter (Wanda) Margeson, New Minas; sister-in-law, Susan (Paul) Gray, Greenwood; brother-in-law, Tim Margeson (Jeannie Weisner), Kentville, many nieces, nephews, Tita, Tito, cousins and friends. James’ life, legacy and memory will live on in many others through the gift of organ donation. In death, he continues to be kind, generous and thinking of others.

James started his security career at the Casino in Halifax where he met his wife. Together they left Halifax to raise their family in the Kentville area. He had been employed with the Kentville Justice Centre, serving as a Deputy Sheriff, for 23 years, where he carried out the rank of Staff Sergeant making lifelong friendship with his co-workers. He always treated people with respect and kindness. He enjoyed playing guitar, gaming, spending time with his family and was an accomplished voice impersonator (bringing laughs and smiles to everyone who heard these voices).

James served with the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years where he was part of the Hazmat Response Team and a member of the Personnel Committee. If doing traffic for an extended time, he would be dancing in the streets with the light wands. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 17th in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18th, followed by a reception. A livestream of the service will be available for those unable to make it. Donations in memory may be made to the Kentville Fire Junior program.

Keep your face always towards the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind you
