A gathering to Celebrate the Lives of Mona and Geral Dalton

will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026 in the Sheffiled Mills Comunity Hall.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our mother, Mona Marie (Rhynold) Dalton on February 13th, 2026 at the Valley Regional Hospital surrounded by her three children.

Born on September 25th, 1947 in Kentville, NS she was the daughter of the late Lawson Douglas Rhynold and Ruth Prudence (Kane) Rhynold.
Mom always felt things very deeply and passionately and was a natural storyteller. It showed through her love of music, singing, playing guitar, and numerous songs and poems she wrote. Always up for a family and friends’ get-together with guitars playing, she would sing along with her feet tapping and a smile on her face. Able to strike up a conversation with anyone, including strangers, she was funny and could tell jokes like no other. Mom found great joy being outside surrounded by her flower gardens, watching and listening to the birds sing. She loved to knit, crochet, read, watch hockey and baseball, and was a true Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan. She would always have a story to tell remembering her childhood, growing up in Sheffield Mills on Baines Road (Bush Street as she called it), playing with friends, her brothers and sisters, and going to school at the little Sheffield Mills schoolhouse. She married at a young age and eventually moved to Habitant where she and Gerald raised their three children and lived there for more than 50 years, until she moved to Cambridge in the spring of 2025 with her son Jeffery.

She is survived by her three children, Angela Louise Schofield, Cambridge; Crystal Lynn Dalton (Kevin Roscoe), Cambridge; and Jeffery Paul Dalton, Cambridge; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sister, Joan (Bill) Fraser, Cambridge; and brothers, Kenneth (Charlotte) Rhynold, Canning; and Allen (Patricia) Rhynold, Centreville.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Gerald Dalton, brothers Douglas and Paul Rhynold, and sisters Christina (Palmer), and Helen (Lutz).

Gerald Duval Dalton – age 78, of Habitant, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022 in the Grand View Manor, Berwick with his family by his side. Born in Waterville, he was a son of the late Edward "Ted" and Flora (Hudgins) Dalton.

Gerald, known as "Jeb" by some, was a carpenter all his life. He was the co-founder of the Triple D Bluegrass Festival, held in Black Rock, where he worked tirelessly. He enjoyed bowling in the mixed league at Fairlane bowling alley in New Minas. He also looked forward to his Friday night bingo outings at the Canning Lions Hall. Gerald was a very generous man with his time and craftmanship to whomever needed a helping hand. He participated in many craft shows in the local area doing what he loved to do, which was woodworking. Gerald was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mona (Rhynold); son, Jeffery, of Habitant; daughters, Angela (Blaine O’Handley), of Cambridge, Crystal (Kevin Roscoe), of Cambridge; brothers, Roy, of Black Rock and Alfred, of Somerset; grandchildren, Kyle and Katelyn Schofield; great grandchildren, Emerson, Bodie, and Novaleigh.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Reggie and Eddie; and sister, Goldie.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks of appreciation to the nurses and staff of Chase Unit at Grand View Manor for taking such wonderful care of Gerald.
