Mr. Fredrick "Fred" Curry

1924-2008

Mr. Fredrick "Fred" Curry
Fredrick George “Fred” Curry - age 84 years, of Hortonville, Kings County, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 18, 2008. Born in Hortonville on January 26, 1924, he was the second son of the late Lee and Mary (Waugh) Curry. Fred farmed in Hortonville his entire life and was the sixth generation of his family to farm the property. He was active until recently, loving every minute that he worked the land of the Grand Pré marsh. He and his wife, Betty, founded Curryknoll Farms and developed it into the dairy farm that they proudly turned over to their sons. Fred was respected for his humour and his integrity; he was known as a man of his word and a good friend and neighbour. Fred was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” (Wentzell); children, Anne Curry of New Glasgow; Mary (David) MacInnes of Grand Pré; Hugh (Violy) Curry of White Rock; Charles Curry of Hortonville; George (Stephanie) Curry of Greenwich; Richard (Ronna) Curry of Hortonville; John (Cathy) Curry of Hortonville; Joe (Janet) Curry of London, Ontario; and Jane (Collin) Weber of Drayton, Ontario. He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Jean Doris (13 months); his brother, Walter and his sisters, Jean Gesner and Mary Stuart. In his younger years, Fred played goal for the Kentville Wildcats hockey team and participated in many other sports. He loved visitors at his home and often entertained them by talking about the history of the family and the community. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan and enjoyed his collections of Maple Leafs and John Deere memorabilia, but his greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren, Emily, Nicolas, Ruth, Maria (Chris), Sarah, Christina, Kailey, Michael, Riley, Reanne, Jim (Ashley), Robyn, Shannon, Katie, Lee, Eben and Hyland. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends in the community, and by dedicated employee and friend, Sean. Visitation will be held at the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville on Saturday, November 22, 2008 from 6:00pm - 9:00pm. The funeral service will be held from the White Family Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at 3:00pm with Reverend Robyn Brown-Hewitt officiating. Interment will take place in the Lower Horton Cemetery, Grand Pré. A reception will follow at the Lion’s Hall, Elm Street, Wolfville. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fred to the Lower Horton Community Centre, the Lower Horton Cemetery, or the Grand Pré Covenanter Church would be appreciated by his family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, 100 Cornwallis Street, Kentville, NS B4N 2E4, and donations may be sent to this address.
