Mr. George A.F. Ashby
1917-2009
George Albert Frederick Ashby - 93, of Kentville, passed away Friday,
February 13, 2009 at home. Born on March 27, 1915 in Sydney Mines,
Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Frederick and Eliza (Brown)
Ashby. He lived his whole life in the Annapolis Valley and retired
from Cornwallis Motors. He was an active bowler and participated in
many tournaments over the years. He was a charter member of the
Kentville Lions Club and in 2001 received the Volunteer of the Year
Award for the town of Kentville. He also enjoyed his poker group and
was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. He is survived by two
daughters, Muriel (David) Johnston, Bedford; Linda Robinson, Calgary;
two sons, Michael (Diane), Kentville; Terry (Lana), Newtonville, Kings
County; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces
and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mildred MacInnis; a sister,
Elsie; three brothers, Clarence, William and Harry. Cremation has
taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville and there will be no visitation, by family request. The
funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Monday, February 16, 2009 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings
County. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be
made to the Kentville Lions Club. Funeral arrangements have been
