Isabelle Evelina Frances Gibson – It is with great sadness that
we announce our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and
sister went home to be with her Saviour on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at
the age of 82. She passed away in Valley Regional Hospital,
Kentville. Born in Upper Dyke, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the
late Lucy Viner and Leander Gibson. In 1943 she married the late
Charles “Charlie” Gibson Sr. and moved to Gibson Woods
where they raised their large family. She was a member and a
past-treasurer of Gibson Woods United Baptist Church and a chairperson
of the Gibson Woods Cemetery Commission. She was employed outside the
home for many years providing in-home cleaning services. She was later
employed at Peoples Department Store, Shoppers Drug Mart, and
Lawton’s Drug Store as a sales representative. She was a
volunteer for 18 years at Fidelis House in Kentville and also
campaigned for many years on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Society.
Mom loved to knit, crochet, and make her beautiful butterflies which
she shared with many. She was a strong woman and a loving mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her greatest source of pride was
her family. She is survived by her nine children, Charles
“Sonny” Jr., Gibson Woods; Annie (Ron Spears), Bible Hill;
Bryan (Teresa), Kentville; Cecille (Reuben Evans), Texas; David
(Catherine), Coldbrook; Michael, North Vancouver; Craig (Deborah),
Regina; Cheryl Byard, Dartmouth; Heather Goodall, Halifax; her
sisters, Leah Gibson, Judy Ryman, Bernice Gomes and Sylvia MacPhee,
all of Toronto; her brothers, Wilfred, John “Avon”,
Douglas, Wayne and Carl, all of Ontario; Angus “Johnny”,
South Alton; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces
and nephews. She is also survived by her loving and devoted partner of
15 years, Maurice Millier, Centreville, Kings County. Together they
enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening and making annual summer trips to
P.E.I. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by an
infant son, Gary; an infant grandson, Bradford; her maternal
grandparents, James and Lucy (Grey) Viner; her paternal grandparents,
John and Maude Gibson; sisters, Shirley Johnson, Maude Kelsie,
Geraldine States and Muriel Fletcher; a brother, Eugene. The remains
have been entrusted to the care of White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville, where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.,
Friday, July 17, 2009. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m.,
Saturday, July 18, 2009 at First Cornwallis Baptist Church in Upper
Canard, Kings Co., Pastor Stephen Gough officiating, assisted by
Pastor Galvin Simmonds. Burial will take place in Gibson Woods
Cemetery. A reception will follow in the reception room of the White
Family Funeral Home. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be
made to Gibson Woods United Baptist Church, Canadian Cancer Society,
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Valley Regional Hospital
or Fidelis House, Kentville. Isabelle’s children would like to
thank the nursing staff at Valley Regional Hospital, Medical B and
Medical A Units who took great care of our mother, the volunteers at
Fidelis House, Pastor Stephen Gough, Pastor Galvin Simmonds, members
of Gibson Woods United Baptist Church, White Family Funeral Home,
numerous extended family and dear friends who visited, called, sent
cards and prayers for our Mom during her illness. Your love and
prayers of support has sustained us and our families at this extremely
difficult time and will in the days ahead. It is truly appreciated. We
give thanks always to God for our Mother and letting her experience
such a fulfilling life. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to
the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
